NEWPORT BEACH : 6 Council Candidates to Appear at Forum
The six candidates vying for three City Council seats in the Nov. 3 election are expected to present their views on issues ranging from the city’s term-limit initiative to John Wayne Airport at a forum Wednesday night.
The forum, which is being sponsored by the Newport-Mesa Assn. of Realtors, starts at 6 p.m. at City Hall and is open to the public.
Members of the association have prepared questions for the candidates, and any other questions will not be allowed, organizers said.
Planning Commissioner Janice A. Debay and account executive Richard Banks are competing to represent District 2 (West Newport). The seat will be vacated by Councilwoman Ruthelyn Plummer.
In District 5 (Balboa Island), incumbent Councilwoman Jean H. Watt will face challengers Richard C. Lewis, a management consultant, and real estate agent Diane Coltrane.
John C. Cox Jr. has no opponent for the seat in District 7 (parts of Corona del Mar), but he will participate in the debate.
The forum will be aired live on cable TV.
