Santa Ana Man Dies in Drive-By Shooting
SANTA ANA — An early morning drive-by shooting left a 20-year-old man dead Sunday, police said.
Martin Cardenas of Santa Ana was standing with friends in front of a residence in the 1000 block of West 3rd Street just after 1 a.m. when a car drove by and several shots were fired, Police Sgt. Roger Scharf said.
Cardenas was hit twice, once in the chest and once in the back. His friends took him to UCI Medical Center in Orange, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Police, who have not identified the vehicle or the assailant, are investigating the incident as a possible gang shooting, Scharf said.
