Luginbill Leads Palomar to Victory Over Fullerton

Tom Luginbill threw for 321 yards and four touchdowns to lead the visiting Palomar College football team to a 31-18 Mission Conference victory Saturday over Fullerton.
Luginbill, a Torrey Pines High graduate, completed 21 of 40 passes to lift the Comets to a 3-1 mark, 2-1 in conference.
John Livingston caught eight of Luginbill’s passes for 160 yards and three touchdowns. Luginbill completed only one of five attempts in the second half, but it was good for a 77-yard touchdown to Chris Coglan.
Tony Burton led the Comets on the ground with 92 yards in 20 rushes.
Fullerton, off to its worst start in history, fell to 0-4 after 47 consecutive winning seasons.
VOLLEYBALL
After a close first game, Loyola Marymount scored 24 consecutive points and 33 of the final 36 to rout the University of San Diego, 17-15, 15-0, 15-3, in a West Coast Conference women’s match at the USD Sports Center.
The Toreros (11-8, 2-2) led, 15-14, and was serving for the first game before Loyola (10-7, 3-0) took control of the match.
Deanna Doolittle paced the Lions with 12 kills. USD’s kill leader, Jennifer Wrightson, had only five. Shannon Mutch had all 14 assists for the Toreros.
Gracie Schutt had a match-high 25 kills and four service aces to give San Diego State a 12-15, 15-7, 15-8, 15-4 Western Athletic Conference victory over Wyoming at Peterson Gym. Jennifer Miller added 12 kills and Pam Hope had 31 assists for the Aztecs (14-4, 1-2). Wyoming fell to 11-5, 2-2.
UC San Diego dropped a four-game match to Cal State Bakersfield, the fifth-ranked team in Division III, 15-10, 6-15, 15-9, 15-12 at Triton Gym. For CSUB (12-4), Joellen Jeffrey had a game-high 13 kills. Laura Kranz had 12 kills for the ninth-ranked Tritons (6-11).
Cal Baptist defeated visiting Point Loma Nazarene, 15-6, 12-15, 15-8, 15-8, in a Golden State Athletic Conference match. Roberta Smith had 11 kills for PLNC (11-5, 4-2). Cal Baptist is 16-3, 6-2.
Mount St. Mary’s downed Christian Heritage, 15-6, 15-13, 15-3, in El Cajon. Shelly Stafford had eight kills for the Hawks (4-21). Suzanne Sherman (13 kills, five blocks) was the difference for Mount St. Mary’s (10-8).
MEN’S SOCCER
Biola took an NAIA District 3 match from Point Loma Nazarene, 4-1, in Point Loma. Rodrigo da Matta scored the only goal for the Crusaders (3-4-1, 2-4). Luke Baker scored two goals for Biola (4-8-1, 3-2).
WOMEN’S SOCCER
Colorado College and No. 18 California played to a 2-2 tie in the San Diego State Puma Classic, setting up a championship match between Colorado (7-1) and SDSU (4-4-1) today at 1 p.m. at SDSU. The Aztecs beat Cal (4-5-1) on Friday.
