Vu’s Condition Remains Critical but Stable
Escondido High football player Vu Dang remained in critical but stable condition Tuesday at Palomar Medical Center. Dang suffered a head injury in Friday’s game against San Marcos.
Dang’s mother, Cuc, released a statement saying she did not blame any of the San Marcos players for her son’s injury: “Everyone was trying to do their best. We know the boys didn’t mean for Vu to get hurt.”
HOCKEY
The Gulls signed left wing Steve Martinson, a holdover from last year’s club, and gave backup goalie Bruce Hoffort a 25-game contract.
Martinson, 33, had 18 goals and 15 assists with the Gulls in 1991-92. Hoffort had an 11-9 record and a 3.62 goals-against average last season for the Gulls.
WOMEN’S SOCCER
Leanna Jay scored three goals and Shawn Viloria, Reese Cichinelli and Stefanie Case added two each for San Diego State in a 9-0 victory over visiting Cal Baptist. San Diego State improved to 3-4-1. Cal Baptist, which was short a player, was outshot, 37-0.
WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Point Loma Nazarene defeated visiting Biola University, 15-6, 11-15, 15-9, 15-2, in District 3 play. Kacy Oakley led PLNC (11-4, 6-1) with 13 kills, Sunday Renzema added 11, plus four solo blocks. Biola fell to 8-6, 5-3.
