BURBANK : HUD to Help Fund Housing for Seniors
A Burbank builder has received an $8.7-million loan and a $481,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to build and operate an apartment complex for senior citizens.
Wesley Homes received the money to build the eight-story Verdugo Towers project at San Fernando Boulevard and Verdugo Avenue. The city of Burbank is sponsoring the project. The building will have 121 apartments for low- and moderate-income seniors and a parking garage for 68 cars.
The city has been planning the project for several years and city officials said they hope construction will start early next year.
