THE ARTS
CalArts Awards: Walt Disney Co. Vice Chairman Roy E. Disney and National Gallery of Art Chairman Franklin D. Murphy have been named recipients of the first Trustees Awards from CalArts, recognizing “extraordinary service” to the arts. Disney, son of Walt Disney Co. co-founder Roy O. Disney, has headed the studio’s expanding animation department since 1984. Murphy, a trustee of the Ahmanson Foundation and the J. Paul Getty Trust, is also past president and chairman of the L.A. County Museum of Art where he continues to serve as a trustee. He is director emeritus of Times Mirror, parent company of The Times. Disney and Murphy each will receive a specially commissioned print from artist John Baldessari at a ceremony on Oct. 18.
