Switzerland Beats Brazil in Semifinals

GENEVA — Switzerland will make its first trip to the Davis Cup championship round after taking an insurmountable 3-0 lead in its semifinal meeting against Brazil with a straight-sets doubles victory Saturday.
In the December finals, the Swiss will face the United States, which took a 3-0 lead Saturday in Minneapolis.
Switzerland’s Marc Rosset, who hit a winning forehand volley on match point before a hometown crowd of 18,000, teamed with Jakob Hlasek to beat Cassio Motta and Fernando Roese, 6-3, 6-4, 6-3.
Rosset and Hlasek had won singles matches for a 2-0 Swiss lead on Friday.
Switzerland reached the semifinals when it beat defending champion France earlier this year. The Swiss beat the Netherlands in the first round.
Rosset and Hlasek, the defending Italian and French open doubles champions, beat the Brazilians in 1 hour 26 minutes on a fast surface.
