BIG WEST ROUNDUP : New Mexico State Streak Ends
Anthony Calvillo passed for two touchdowns and rushed for two more to lead Utah State to its first victory, a 48-21 rout of previously unbeaten New Mexico State Saturday at Logan, Utah.
New Mexico State, 3-1 overall and 0-1 in the Big West, saw its longest winning streak since 1985 come to an end.
Calvillo, a junior college transfer in his first start at quarterback for the Aggies (1-3, 1-0), guided Utah State to six scoring drives in seven first-half possessions. He finished 18 for 29 for 207 yards, and ran for 38 yards in eight carries.
Abu Wilson carried 22 times for 157 yards to lead the Aggies’ 307-yard rushing attack.
Utah State rolled to a 34-0 halftime lead, with Calvillo igniting the Aggies with a 45-yard touchdown run. He later ran two yards for a touchdown.
Tulane 34, Nevada 17--The Wolf Pack had been allowing only 73 yards rushing but gave up 265 to the Green Wave and fell to 2-2. Joey Perry had 105 of those yards in 15 carries for Tulane (2-2).
Nevada quarterback Chris Vargas, who came in averaging 314 passing yards, completed only 10 of 26 passes for 135 yards.
Pacific 48, Southwest Missouri State 14--The Tigers (1-3) won their first game of the season in a big way, rolling over the Bears of the Gateway Collegiate Athletic Conference in a big way.
