Rodney King Settlement

The biggest problem I have with the issue of settlement in King’s lawsuit is that both sides are discussing it in public. In fact, this discussion may violate the Brown Act under California law. Matters concerning civil litigation and settlement of civil lawsuits should only be discussed during closed sessions of the City Council meetings. If both sides had worked behind the scenes toward a compromise, they could have probably reached an amicable solution. Public revelation of what was offered and/or rejected does nothing but add fuel to the public fire of controversy!
