Responsibility Key to Council Drive

Community responsibility is the cornerstone of my campaign, not taxes. Unfortunately, comments I made to a reporter were taken out of context in my candidate profile (“Buena Park City Council Candidates,” Sept. 16).

What I do believe is that Sacramento has dealt out some cards to local government that will force us to make some tough but responsible decisions to balance our budget and cut our local budget deficit. Taxing is not necessarily the answer, but methodically working down through the budget (by) tightening our belts and cutting spending in a way that doesn’t sacrifice one city service or important community program is.

Community responsibility comes in when the citizens of Buena Park get involved in keeping alive programs that might get cut.

The key is to reintroduce city government to the people it serves, and from that create increased local participation and community pride. These are the answers, not taxation.
