Correa’s Sack Saves Victory for Santa Ana Valley

SANTA ANA —  Cesar Correa dashed Saddleback’s two-point conversion attempt with a sack to preserve a 10-9 victory for Santa Ana Valley Friday night at the Santa Ana Stadium.

The Roadrunners had scored on a 17-play, 77-yard drive, which featured three fourth-down conversions, to move within one with 2 minutes 3 seconds left in the game. Gilbert Guzman caught a 10-yard touchdown pass from David Ruvolo to conclude the drive, which took 8:32.

Santa Ana Valley (2-1) had increased the lead to 10-3 on a 32-yard field goal by Israel Hernandez before the Roadrunners went on their time-consuming drive.

The Falcons, behind the running of Dwayne Cherrington, opened the contest with a 14-play, 89-yard touchdown drive concluding on Aaron Tuioto’s one-yard run. Cherrington, who finished the contest with 112 yards rushing, carried the ball for the first seven plays of the drive.

Saddleback (1-2) took advantage of a bad snap by Santa Ana Valley, costing the Falcons 29 yards, to get the ball with 1:24 left in the first half and setting up a 25-yard field goal by Julio Oroco.
