Pioneer Dominates Bolsa Grande in 34-7 Victory

WHITTIER — Pioneer High School’s football team held Bolsa Grande to 102 yards of offense and defeated the Matadors, 34-7, Friday night at Titan Stadium.
Alex Gonzalez led the Titans with 113 yards rushing in 15 carries, scoring Pioneer’s first touchdown on the second play of the game. Gonzalez took a handoff and fumbled, but picked up the ball and ran 65 yards to give the Titans a 7-0 lead with 45 seconds into the game.
Pioneer scored on its second possession when quarterback Danny Lopez found tight end Ozzie Alanis for a 58-yard touchdown pass with 3 minutes 42 seconds left in the first quarter.
Running back Brian Meraz scored on a three-yard run with 4:44 left in the first half that give Pioneer a 21-0 halftime lead.
After the Titans (2-1) added a pair of third-quarter touchdowns, the Matadors drove 76 yards in 13 plays, capped by a two-yard touchdown run by Adam Gilbert with 9:21 left in the game.
Bolsa Grande’s (0-3) quarterback Brian Baughman connected with James Britton for a 17-yard pass on fourth down and long to set up the Matadors’ only touchdown.
