BREA : Panel to Help Plan Future of Landfill
It won’t happen until the year 2013, but residents are already planning how best to use the 500 acres of the Olinda-Olinda Alpha landfill after it is closed.
Community Services Director Ret Wixted said a community advisory committee is being formed to work with city and county officials in planning the future of the landfill, near Valencia Avenue and Carbon Canyon Road.
Wixted said earlier this week that the community advisory committee will look at possible landscaping to minimize blight, development of interim parks and recreation facilities before the landfill’s closure and how the community can get involved.
She said the key issue is what would be the best use of the land once the landfill is closed.
Committee members would include designers from the Sphere of Influence process, a representative from Olinda Village and a member of the Planning Commission.
The committee will meet for the first time at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
