Reagan Military Chief Set to Endorse Clinton
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Adm. William J. Crowe Jr., chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff under President Ronald Reagan, will endorse Democratic presidential candidate Bill Clinton, a Clinton campaign aide said Friday.
Campaign spokeswoman Dee Dee Myers said Crowe and Clinton would make the announcement together today at the governor’s mansion in Little Rock.
As chairman of the joint chiefs, Crowe headed the group of chiefs of the Army, the Navy, the Air Force and the Marines.
When the admiral, an expert on Soviet naval power, retired in 1989, President Bush praised him and singled out his participation in moves to improve military-to-military relations between Washington and Moscow.
