TUSTIN : Schools Offer Low-Fat Lunches
The Tustin Unified School District will offer special low-fat lunch menus through Sept. 26 as part of the American Heart Assn.’s Food Festival.
The nationwide event is designed to encourage heart-healthy lunches at school.
The festival is one strategy of the California Department of Education’s “Child Nutrition: Shaping Healthy Choices” campaign.
The campaign’s goal is to assist schools and child development agencies in promoting foods low in fat and sodium and high in fiber, in an effort to decrease children’s risk of heart disease, cancer and other chronic diseases.
The project is being coordinated by the California Department of Education, the American Heart Assn. and the California School Food Service Assn.
