ANAHEIM — Arraceion Mobley rushed for a game-high 105 yards and scored three touchdowns, and John Guthrie passed for 171 yards and two touchdowns to lead Kennedy over Magnolia, 34-7, in a nonleague game Thursday at Western High.
Guthrie completed 11 of 13 passes, including touchdown passes of 66 and nine yards to wide receiver Charlie Marino, to help the Fighting Irish improve to 2-0.
Mobley, a senior tailback, scored on runs of nine, two and five yards. His first two touchdowns came in the first quarter and the last with three seconds left in the third. Four of Guthrie’s passes went to Marino, who finished with 84 yards receiving.
Magnolia (0-2), which last week lost to Katella, 49-0, finally scored with 1:37 left in the game on a two-yard run by Jamaal Wright.
The tailback, who had 77 yards rushing, handled the bulk of the Magnolia running game because Butter McCown, the Sentinels’ top running back, is sidelined indefinitely after suffering a knee injury during practice this week.
Sentinel Richard Hughes, a senior tight end and defensive back, was injured with 1:07 left in the game as Magnolia attempted to stop a Kennedy ballcarrier.
Hughes was examined as he lay on the field by Kennedy team physician, Dilip Tapadiya, and taken to a hospital for X-rays. Tapadiya said Hughes had a neck injury but that it didn’t appear serious. He said the trip to the hospital was a precaution.
The rest of the game was called when Hughes went down.
