New Conductor to Be Welcomed
The Ventura County Symphony will welcome maestro Boris Brott, the second conductor in the orchestra’s 31-year history, at a piano recital tonight at Ventura City Hall.
Former Camarillo resident Lincoln Mayorga will perform works by George Gershwin, Irving Berlin and Leonard Bernstein at the 7:30 p.m. event.
Mayorga, who now lives in New York City, is an internationally recognized pianist who has performed on film and television soundtracks in addition to his concert appearances.
He has arranged and directed music for a number of popular vocalists, including Barbara Streisand, Johnny Mathis, Andy Williams and Quincy Jones.
Brott, who will conduct the symphony for the first time on Oct. 3, is the successor to Frank Salazar.
Late requests for $25 tickets to the concert may be made by calling the symphony’s office at 643-8646.
