AFTER THE RIOTS : Property Owners Hit by Unrest Get Extension to File for Loans
Riot victims who suffered property losses during the unrest will have more time to complete loan applications, federal officials announced.
Applicants for Small Business Administration low-interest disaster loans now have until Oct. 15 to return forms. However, the SBA will not issue any further loan applications.
The SBA has approved more than $200 million in loans to about 3,100 Los Angeles riot victims. But more than half of the loan applications issued have not been returned.
“Many (riot victims) are in need of additional time to reconstruct their financial records; many others have language barriers to overcome in order to complete their applications,” said SBA area disaster chief Robert A. Belloni.
Volunteer attorneys, interpreters and accountants are available to assist applicants at three locations: in Los Angeles, 3407 6th Street or 3501 W. Jefferson Blvd.; in Compton, 307 Tamarind Ave.
