Rancho Santiago had an outstanding team effort, led by Aumua, to beat San Diego Mesa, 10-7, Saturday.
Aumua, a defensive tackle from Los Amigos High School, was a vital part of the unit’s performance. He spent much of the game in the Mesa backfield, getting five sacks. He had three other tackles for losses and was in on 12 tackles. Aumua, 6 feet, 220 pounds, was a second-team All-Mission Conference pick last season, when he had seven sacks in 10 games.
Other top performers:
George Charlesworth, who scored three goals as Cypress beat Mt. San Antonio, 3-2, in a nonconference soccer match. His final goal broke a 2-2 tie with 15 seconds left.
Marcellus Chrishon, who rushed for 177 yards and scored four touchdowns as Saddleback beat Santa Monica, 34-10.
Jose Escudero scored Rancho Santiago’s first four goals in the Dons’ 7-2 soccer victory over Citrus.
Eric Washington, who rushed for 145 yards as Orange Coast beat Long Beach, 16-14. He had an 82-yard touchdown run, fourth-longest in school history.
