FOUNTAIN VALLEY : Fire Damages Two Condos and Garage
Flames roared through two condominiums and a garage Tuesday afternoon, causing an estimated $450,000 in damage, fire and city officials said.
No one was injured in the 3:45 p.m. fire at the Paradise Manor condominium complex, near the intersection of Euclid Street and Slater Avenue.
The fire began in a garage on Pleasant Court, a short alley which juts north from Slater Avenue, then spread through the pair of units, said Don Heinbuch, a spokesman for the city. Heinbuch said he did not know if the condominiums were occupied at the time of the fire.
More than 30 firefighters worked for about 10 minutes to bring the fire under control, officials said.
Patti Sies, a Paradise Manor resident who called the Fire Department, said she was in her kitchen when she heard a strange sound.
“It sounded like someone breaking wood,” she said.
Investigators did not know what started the fire, Heinbuch said.
Police evacuated several nearby condominiums, as a precaution, and closed Slater Avenue between Euclid and Newhope streets, causing traffic jams for more than an hour as firefighters doused the building.
