In response to “$7.6 Billion Urged for Hurricane Aid,” Sept. 9: My fellow Americans in Florida, Louisiana and Guam will divide $7.6 billion in storm aid among their 17.5 million residents. That works out to a little more than $400 per person.
Israel, on the other hand, will receive twice as many dollars as my fellow countrymen--$15 billion, $10 billion in loan guarantees plus the usual $5 billion we give them every year. With a population of 5 million, that is about $3,000 per Israeli. If one assumes the $10 billion is only spent on (the falling number of) emigres, it soars to over $50,000 per household!
