The Lion’s Roar: “The Story of Qiu Ju,” a Chinese comedy about a peasant woman’s experience with bureaucracy, won the Golden Lion award for best picture Saturday at the 49th Venice Film Festival in Italy. The movie’s star, Gong Li, won the Volpi Cup for best actress. Jack Lemmon won the best actor award for his role in “Glengarry Glen Ross.” Ingrid Bergman was posthumously given a best actress award for her performance in Roberto Rossellini’s “Europa 51/The Greatest Love,” which was released in 1952. She was denied the award because the film had been dubbed. Also honored with a special career award was Francis Ford Coppola.
