A San Francisco man was arrested early Friday on suspicion of felony drunk driving and vehicular manslaughter after reportedly crashing into a parked car on the shoulder of Interstate 5 in Chula Vista, killing the driver.
Miguel Antonio Abreu-Flores, 31, of San Diego was pronounced dead at the scene after a pickup truck slammed into his car, a California Highway Patrol dispatcher said.
Flores was driving northbound on Interstate 5 near L Street at 1:55 a.m. with two passengers when he rear-ended another car, the dispatcher said. The two cars then pulled over to the right shoulder of the freeway and came to a stop.
Kirby R. Todd, 40, who was driving about 60 m.p.h., then hit Flores’ car on the driver’s side, killing Flores and injuring the two passengers, the dispatcher said.
Todd suffered minor injuries and was taken to county jail.
Fernando Garcia, 28, from San Ysidro and Marco Macias, 23, of Mexico, both passengers in Flores’ car, were taken to UCSD Medical Center. Macias was in serious condition and Garcia in good condition Friday, hospital officials said.
