Warner News Media Inc. Announces Layoffs: The small division of Time Warner has laid off about 11 people, or 20% of its staff in Burbank, a Time Warner executive confirmed. “The growth in the CD-ROM universe has been significantly less than the numbers that had been predicted by the industry,” the executive said, requesting anonymity. “We’re pulling back until the marketplace gets there.” Time Warner will shift more resources to the interactive TV cable programming, the executive said, but has no plans to sell or shut down the News Media unit.
