Woody Allen Scandal

Just when it seemed the Republicans couldn’t sink any lower--after that spectacle in Houston celebrating greed and privilege, bigotry and intolerance, divisive “family values” rather than a concept of “community values”--they are now trying to exploit the pain and trauma of Woody Allen’s recent scandal by turning it into a political issue.
Rep. Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) and other high-profile Republicans want us to believe that Allen represents the values of the Democratic Party. Does this mean that Jimmy Swaggart and Jim Bakker, Michael Milken, Ivan Boesky and Charles Keating--perhaps even the British royal family--represent the values of the Republican Party?
Or does it mean that the Republicans are so desperate and bereft of ideas that they will say anything to distract us from our economic problems and avoid debating the real issues of this campaign?
