Wetlands Tours--Guided public tours of the Bolsa Chica wetlands will be offered Saturday morning. The tours, sponsored by Amigos de Bolsa Chica, will depart every 20 minutes beginning at 9 a.m. from the wetlands’ ecological reserve. The last tour will start at 10:30 a.m.
Participants will be able to view the fall migrants, which have begun to arrive at the wetlands.
Those who would like to take a tour are asked to meet at the ecological reserve on Pacific Coast Highway about half a mile south of Warner Avenue, across from Bolsa Chica State Beach.
Upper Bay Tour--Another great place to keep an eye out for fall migrants is Upper Newport Bay. The California Department of Fish and Game offers free guided tours of the Upper Newport Bay Ecological Reserve every Saturday and Sunday at 1 p.m.
Those who are interested are asked to meet at Shellmaker Island off Backbay Drive in Newport Beach.
For more information about the tours and other programs at Upper Newport Bay, call the California Department of Fish and Game at (714) 640-6746.
Audubon Meeting--Migrating shorebirds will also be the topic at South Coast Audubon’s monthly meeting Wednesday at the Orange County Marine Institute in Dana Point.
