A man found shot to death in his car in Thousand Oaks this week has been identified as Gaston Zarate, 24, authorities said Friday.
An autopsy conducted Friday showed that Zarate, a transient from the Thousand Oaks area who lived in his car, died from several gunshots to the chest, Deputy Coroner Craig Stevens said.
Zarate’s body was found Thursday propped in the front seat of his 1977 Monte Carlo, which was parked on Greenwich Drive.
Stevens said he did not know how long Zarate had been dead before he was found by sheriff’s deputies. No gun was found. Zarate’s brother lives in Thousand Oaks and the rest of his family is in Mexico, Stevens said.
Sheriff’s deputies said the incident is being described as a homicide. No bullet holes were found in the car’s exterior.
