RICHMOND, Calif. — More than 60 people were hospitalized briefly for nausea, lightheadedness and throat irritation after a 100-gallon nitric acid leak at a neighboring chrome-plating company.
Dozens of people suffered minor respiratory problems after the toxic cloud of nitric acid spread over a residential area, officials said.
Residents near the shop where the spill occurred were ordered to remain inside for at least 10 hours Saturday as hazardous material teams mopped up the chemical.
