LOCAL NOTES : Ocean View Team Wins Series Title
Brandon Hoalton pitched a three-hitter as Ocean View beat Johnson City, Tenn., 2-1, Sunday to win the Palomino World Series title Sunday in Greensboro, N.C.
Hoalton struck out nine and walked none; the run was unearned. Ocean View scored twice in the second to take a 2-1 lead. Keith Cowley had an RBI single and Mike Belovich followed with a sacrifice fly.
Ocean View pitchers allowed one run and nine hits in four games.
Tiger Woods of Cypress is the halfway leader at the 24th Insurance Youth Golf Classic being played at Pinehurst No. 7 in Pinehurst, N.C.
Woods is six-under for two days after rounds of 68 and 70. Chris Berry of Yorba Linda also made the cut and is tied for 17th at 73-78-151.
Today, the players will play with PGA professionals.
David Warady of Huntington Beach finished eighth but has a comfortable lead in the Runner’s World Trans American Footrace. Emile Laharrague of France won the 44-mile stage from Schellsburg to McConnellsburg, Pa., in 6 hours 27 minutes. Warady finished in 8:12:12 and has an overall lead of 12:51:21 with six days left.
Bob May of La Habra shot a par 72 in the final round and finished 12 shots back at the Ben Hogan Texarkana Open in Texarkana, Ark.
May finished with a three-day total of 209 and won $1,650.
