Candidate George Bush
President Bush has likened the election of Gov. Bill Clinton to a return to the “misery” of President Carter (Aug. 9). With respect, the Carter Administration won accord between Israel and Egypt; President Bush was de facto defeated by Saddam Hussein. Carter’s national debt was manageable; Bush’s is bankrupting.
Given a choice between past inflation and today’s arguable depression, Carter’s brand of misery looks pretty good.
