Ed Speaks Up: Speaking of Carson, his former sidekick Ed McMahon says published reports that he declined to donate money to the Johnny Carson Park in Burbank are “totally erroneous.” McMahon says he was “never asked to contribute anything to a park by anyone at any time” and labeled the reports published in New York and Chicago “unfounded and unfair.” In fact, McMahon says that when a member of the Burbank City Council suggested naming a playground in his honor, he declined because “I did not want to take away from the park named after Johnny Carson.”
