The question was simple. Where are the next Olympics?
And it seemed fair to be asking it of people in Catalonia, as the Olympics have been such a focus of attention here. So it was done, and this was the result:
Heladio Garcia Enriquez of Barcelona, 40, a doorman: “I believe they are going to be in Montreal. Isn’t that in the United States? I think it is either Atlanta or Montreal.”
Francisco Zuniga, 17, of Barcelona, a sales person: “I do not know.”
Rosa Vaga, 40, of Barcelona, a boutique owner: “The next Olympics? I do not know.”
Jose Luis Cerda, 20, of Barcelona, a student: “I do not know.” When told Atlanta: “Where is that? Is that above California? Is it close to the ocean?”
Jose Antonio Caedo of Galicia, 16, a waiter, who answered proudly: “The next Olympics are in Atlanta, USA.”
This a daily roundup of Olympic-related items from reporters in Barcelona from the Los Angeles Times, Newsday and Baltimore Sun, all Times-Mirror newspapers.
