Glendora Picks San Marino’s Police Chief

San Marino Police Chief Paul W. Butler is leaving that post to head the Glendora Police Department early next month.
Butler, 44, replaces Oliver B. Posey, who retired July 10 after 30 years of service in Glendora.
The new chief was selected from among 60 candidates. He will oversee 53 officers and be paid $81,600 annually.
An Air Force veteran, Butler began as a patrol officer with San Marino in 1972. In 1977, he earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Cal State L.A. and received further training in 1982 at the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Va.
In April, 1990, he became chief of San Marino’s 26-officer police force. Butler reorganized the department to improve enforcement of city traffic laws, implemented efforts to make the department more community-oriented and reactivated Neighborhood Watch programs.
A Glendora resident for 19 years, Butler is married and the father of two sons. He has been active with the Glendora American Little League and Glendora Youth Soccer.
