A few Charles Barkley-isms for the day:
--On criticism of the U.S. team for not staying in the Olympic village: “I don’t feel like I’m missing the Olympic experience sleeping four to a room. I’m a black millionaire. I shouldn’t have to stay there.”
--On seeing a few German flags before Wednesday’s game, won by the U.S. team, 111-68: “We came in the arena and a couple of people held up German flags. You could tell they weren’t doing it with much confidence.”
This a daily roundup of Olympic-related items from reporters in Barcelona from the Los Angeles Times, Newsday, Baltimore Sun and Hartford Courant, all Times-Mirror newspapers.
