LOS ANGELES : Judge Orders Sheriff to Rehire Sergeant
- Share via
A judge Friday ordered Sheriff Sherman Block to rehire a former sheriff’s sergeant fired because he falsified receipts and mixed public funds with his own money.
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Robert O’Brien told Block to give Sgt. Manolo Anaya his job back, with back pay and benefits. He apparently agreed with Anaya’s attorney, Cecil Marr, that Anaya made a onetime mistake, and a 30-day suspension that was imposed by the Civil Service Commission was adequate punishment.
Anaya, who was assigned to the Lynwood substation, was fired June 7, 1991, after a county hearing officer ruled that he had mishandled Lynwood Youth Athletic League money. Part of the sergeant’s assignment was administration of the city-funded youth league.
