VALENCIA : Water Reclamation Project Approved
- Share via
A Valencia sewage treatment plant will undergo a $22.4-million expansion under a plan approved this week by two boards of the Sanitation Districts of Los Angeles County.
Santa Clarita Mayor Jill Klajic and Councilwoman Jan Heidt, who make up the majority on Sanitation District Boards No. 26 and 32, had demanded that a public hearing be held in the city before the expenditure could be approved.
The hearing was held Wednesday, and the two council members immediately voted to approve the water reclamation project, which will be funded by new sewer hookup fees.
The other member of the boards, County Supervisor Deane Dana, was absent.
Newhall Land & Farming Co. and Six Flags Magic Mountain are the primary beneficiaries of the expansion of the plant on The Old Road.
They will use the reclaimed water, which is not drinkable, for irrigation.
