Boston OKs Law to Ban Firearms for Batterers

BOSTON — The City Council has approved an ordinance directing police to revoke firearm permits and confiscate weapons of alleged abusers who have had restraining orders issued against them in domestic violence cases.
The law was designed to stem the “incredible pandemic of domestic violence,” said Councilwoman Rosaria Salerno. “This will send a message clearly that this kind of behavior is intolerable.”
The City Council approved the ordinance Wednesday. It needs the signature of Mayor Raymond L. Flynn to take effect.
So far this year, batterers in Massachusetts have used guns against 13 of 26 women and children killed in domestic violence.
