RANCHO BERNARDO : Man’s Body Found Near Lake Hodges
The body of a 42-year-old San Diego man was found early Saturday on a dirt road near Lake Hodges, police said.
The victim was identified as Manuel Portillo, who lived on 38th Street and whose next of kin live in Tijuana. His death appears to have been a homicide, according to a report by Brenda Cummings, a San Diego County medical examiner’s investigator.
Portillo’s body was found at 6 a.m. on a dirt trail a quarter of a mile east of West Bernardo Drive on the south side of Lake Hodges by a California Department of Fish and Game officer on patrol, police said.
The officer discovered the body, which was clad in a white, sleeveless T-shirt and olive green trousers, after she investigated a gate that had been tampered with, police said.
An examination will be conducted today to determine the cause of death, the medical examiner’s office said.
