Anette Fischer; Leader in Amnesty International
LONDON — Anette Fischer, the head of Amnesty International’s governing committee, has been killed in a car crash in Italy, the human rights organization announced Sunday.
Mrs. Fischer, 46, and her husband, Carl Eli Fischer, were killed in a head-on collision in heavy rain in Florence on Saturday, the London-based organization said.
Amnesty International said the accident occurred as the Fischers were returning home to Denmark at the end of a vacation.
Anette Fischer was elected chairwoman of Amnesty International’s governing International Executive Committee in 1991. She had been a member of the committee since 1989.
A librarian by profession, Mrs. Fischer had been a human rights activist for more than 20 years.
