PIER ENVY: Huntington Beach’s new pier, to be dedicated during festivities this weekend (OC Live!, Page 8), is 36 feet longer than the old one, but that’s 10 feet too short to surpass traditional rival Seal Beach. That city remains home of the county’s longest pier at 1,865 feet. . . . The new pier’s engineers are rumored to have overlooked their chance at supremacy, but former Huntington Beach city administrator Paul Cook insists it’s not size that counts. “Theirs is longer,” he says. “Ours is better.”
