Rodney King Settlement

No right-thinking individual can dispute what those officers did to Rodney King was immoral, inhumane and vicious. And that the verdict that followed was an obscene miscarriage of justice. But a $5 million to $8 million settlement (June 25)?

Certainly King deserves compensation, but $5 million to $8 million, more money than he would make in his life? He was not, after all, permanently paralyzed, and he is not dead.

Where does Reginald Denny, beaten to a pulp, still suffering from physical problems, go to seek compensation?

And fireman Scott Miller, shot in the neck during the riots, left arm partially paralyzed, voice reduced to a whisper, the father of two small children--who does he see to seek compensation?

And the innocent victims of the riot, who lost homes, jobs, possessions. Who will compensate each of them?

Again government has proved its incompetence.
