BANKING
Ex-Citibank Manager Convicted of Embezzlement: A former Citibank senior account officer has been convicted in New York of bank fraud and embezzling money from three elderly South American clients, federal prosecutors said. Denise Casanova, 29, of New York faces a possible sentence of 80 years in prison and fines of $8 million. Assistant U.S. Atty. Peter Vigeland said that from May, 1989, until the bank suspended her in December, 1990, Casanova transferred nearly $4 million from the three clients’ accounts to accounts of a friend. She then withdrew the money from her friend’s account to pay for personal expenses, Vigeland said.
