The Pittsburgh Pirates sent infielder Jeff King to their triple-A Buffalo farm club to make room for newly acquired outfielder Alex Cole. King was batting .187 and had only one hit in his last 23 at-bats. . . . The Pirates’ Barry Bonds, activated off of the disabled list, started in left field Saturday for the first time since suffering a strained rib cage muscle June 14 in New York.
