Amat High Graduate Goes to Washington
Peter DeVries of Diamond Bar, a recent graduate of Bishop Amat High School, has attended the National Young Leaders Conference in Washington.
The 350 high school student-conferees were selected for academic achievement, leadership and citizenship. The event was sponsored by the Congressional Youth Leadership Council.
During the six-day conference, students met with leaders from the three branches of government, the media and the diplomatic corps.
The highlight of the conference was the Mock Congress on Gun Control, in which students assumed the roles of members of the U.S. House of Representatives by debating and voting on proposed handgun legislation.
