Streets to Be Closed to Holiday Crowds
The main routes into Newport Beach are expected to be closed Saturday because of heavy traffic expected for the July 4 holiday.
City officials expect at least 100,000 visitors to pour into the beachside city over the weekend and are preparing for traffic jams.
Between 5 p.m. Saturday and 1 a.m. Sunday, streets in the area bounded by West Coast Highway, Prospect Street, 32nd Street and West Balboa Boulevard may be closed.
The outbound lanes of West Balboa Boulevard will remain open. However, the closed area also includes Seashore Drive, which parallels the beach, and the area between 32nd and Prospect streets.
