SAN DIEGO : Accused Bigamist Says Charge Tainted
A man accused of having three wives said Wednesday that the district attorney’s office is relying on tainted information provided by the Mexican government in its prosecution.
Guy Newton Swezey, 42, of Southeast San Diego, made the comments following his arraignment, at which he told a Superior Court judge that he is “absolutely not guilty” of three counts of bigamy.
Judge Frederic L. Link accepted Swezey’s plea and scheduled a trial for Sept. 16. In the meantime, Swezey remains free on his own recognizance.
“Everything that the district attorney knows comes from the Mexican consulate,” Swezey said after the hearing. He said the consulate’s information comes from women who are victimizing him, including one who wants money from him.
