BASF Acquisition Includes Santa Ana Plant: A unit of German chemical and electronics giant BASF Corp. has completed its acquisition of Mobil Corp.’s polystyrene resin unit, including a manufacturing plant in Santa Ana, Mobil officials said Wednesday.
The sale, expected since January, also includes research and development operations and facilities in Joliet, Ill., and Holyoke, Mass. BASF has offered employment to the Mobil unit’s 288 employees, including about 40 in Santa Ana.
Mobil Corp., based in Fairfax, Va., will continue to operate a polystyrene fabricating business.
Resin is a key ingredient in the manufacture of polystyrene, a plastic used in products such as toys and consumer electronics.
