Mattel Wins Patent Infringement Appeal: The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in Washington overturned a patent infringement judgment against Mattel Inc. related to the track parts for the company’s Hot Wheels line of miniature vehicles. The ruling nullifies a February, 1990, verdict by a federal court jury in Chicago, which concluded that the El Segundo-based toy maker had infringed on a patent owned by Jerome Lemelson of Princeton, N.J. Lemelson, who filed the suit in 1977, was awarded $24.8 million in the Chicago case.
