SMALL FACES: Guns N’ Roses is expecting some visitors for its pay-per-view broadcast of a Paris concert on Saturday. Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler and Joe Perry are expected to join in on a couple songs, while other surprises are currently being planned. . . .
Lifebeat, a new nonprofit organization to help support music industry staffers with AIDS or who are HIV-positive, kicks off June 8 with a rave-style concert at New York’s Roseland Auditorium featuring the Pet Shop Boys and Salt-n-Pepa. Artists are being lined up now for a Los Angeles benefit concert in the fall. . . .
Rappers seem to have used up every kind of athletic footwear in hip-hop’s ever-evolving stream of fashion fads. So are Birkenstocks next? The hippie/yuppie sandals are what L.A. bilingual rapper Mellow Man Ace is sporting in a print ad for his new single, “What’s It Take to Pull a Hottie (Like You).”
BOOMERS’ REALITY CHECK: Monday is the 25th anniversary of the release of “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” and Saturday is the 30th (!!) of the Beatles’ audition for EMI producer George Martin (with Pete Best still behind the drums). They had already been turned down by almost every other company in London.
