Northwest Seeks Labor Concessions: Northwest Airlines told employees this week that it will need labor concessions to survive an industry shakeout--even as it unveiled a radical fare promotion that will only widen the industry’s losses. The letter to employees was dated May 26, the same day that St. Paul, Minn.-based Northwest offered a 2-for-1 summer fare deal that triggered an industry-wide fare war. Northwest, a subsidiary of NWA Inc., said its existence will be threatened without labor concessions.
